You need not fear me unless you are a dark heart; a vile one who preys upon the innocent. I promise, you can’t hide in the empty darkness forever, for I will hunt you down and pull you into the very bowels of hell
The Basics
Name: Marissa O-Sullivan Nickname(s): Riss, Rissa, Rissy (she hates Marissa) Age: 24 Birthday: March 1 Current job: unemployed assassin
Race: fae-blooded, mimic Special abilities: - shifter form: tabby cat - primary ability: water manipulation - secondary ability: none Court: n/a
Hair: should-length, brunette Eyes: hazel Physical Looks: There's not much that would stand out in a crowd, and that's exactly how Marissa prefers it to be. Less chance of being noticed means less chance of people remembering her, and a better chance of doing her job. She’s of average height, average weight (though most of that is toned muscle, and not fat. Overweight assassins don’t get very far), and neither her hair nor eyes are particularly noticeable.
That being said, the most striking thing about her is how she likes to wear designer clothes. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but even a basic tee and jean designer-made is more comfortable than off-brand clothing.
When she's out executing an assassination, if it's stealth she tends to wear all-black - black gloves, black hat, black boots, form-fitting black clothes that won't snag on anything. If she has to impersonate anyone or infiltrate a place, she'll be wearing whatever fits in. If it's any other sort of official business she's usually found in dressy attire... and otherwise? Whatever's comfy at the time is cool with her.
She also has a Celtic knot on her shoulder-blade that marks her as part of the family, and both ears are pierced. As a tabby cat, her fur is a striped grey/black coloring, with the pads of her feet a white color.
Character rep: Eliza Dushku
Mentality
Attitude: Rissa’s got an odd set of morals. She’s okay with killing, so long as it’s only the bad people. With the fae she isn’t so picky, up until now a fae was a fae and if they were here on Earth and an order came down to have them killed, that was fine with her. Though now it’s a little less black and white, what with everything going on. But she’s totally not cool with taking hits on anyone who’s totally innocent. And no kids. Period.
She’s more serious than anything else, but she enjoys keeping people around her who aren’t so serious. She may not crack jokes very often, but people who can make her laugh are precious indeed. She’s also hard to anger – call her a bitch and she’ll just laugh, try and make her angry and she’ll probably try and find a way to turn the tables instead of getting upset. The main things that do get her angry however are more in line with relating to her job – such as someone stiffing her out of a payment or someone messing up her mission or such.
Rissa is more of a leader than a follower, in that she doesn't just follow orders blindly. It's gotten her into trouble more than once, but it's better to do what you believe in than to be a sheep.
Her family is more important to her than anything else; they’re the ones she’s grown up with, who help her out in times of need, her sisters most of all. As for friends… Rissa’s never had many of those. She’s more of a solitary person than a social butterfly, and to be honest it hasn’t been easy to make friends either. Since up until a couple months ago not many people knew the fae existed, anyone she met had to be kept in the dark about basically her entire life. And anyone that she met who knew about the fae… well, it was kind of hard to tell them hey, I’m an assassin that hunts down the bad fae here on earth. She’s closer to her sisters than any friend she’s had – they get her, totally.
Goals: None, to be honest. Right now life is in such a state of upheaval that she doesn’t know where things will end up. Likes:
- catnip (yeah, even when she’s not shifted, that stuff is seriously like kitty crack)
- completing an assassination mission
- pretty clothes, usually designer
- reading
- things that go boom
- things that sparkle, dangle, or otherwise tempt her inner kitty
- coffee
Dislikes:
- killing innocent people
- rogue fae, unseelie, or basically any fae that is against humans
- the current situation
- people who try to cheat her by not wanting to pay her after an assassination is complete
Strengths:
- not too shabby with guns
- waiting, when she needs to
- finding good discounts and haggling a price down
Weaknesses:
- hand-to-hand combat
- falling for the innocent, help me act
- clothing sales (so sue her.. she likes her clothes)
- book sales
Fears:
- that the fae will eventually take over the world
- dying
Family
Parents: - Selene O’Sullivan - Gregory O’Sullivan Siblings: - Gabrielle - Sophie - Chloe - Evelyn - Natalie Other family: Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and 2 pairs of grandparents Economic status: Well off, definitely. Not obscenely rich, but on the higher end
History:
Rissa definitely had an unorthodox upbringing. She’s the youngest of five children, all girls, and her entire family on her mother’s side dating back generations have shown signs of The Blood. No one knows exactly when, but somewhere around a century ago one of their many-times-great grandmothers fell in love with a mysterious man who didn’t seem to be quite from this world, and ever since then the family has had The Blood. Or so the story goes… it’s been so long that no one really knows. Either way, her mom, sisters, and her all have various abilities while her father is straight human with a side of shapeshifter. He’s where Rissa and her sisters got their mimic side.
Not only was her family of The Blood, but starting back generations ago her ancestors took an interest in the fae. Or rather, they took an interest in the rogue fae still crossing over to Earth. They started the family business of hunting down the rogue fae here on Earth, getting a list of fae directly from Faerie. Over the generations the business expanded – not only did the O’Sullivans hunt down fae, but they also began to take contracts from the human world as well. It began as an attempt to supplement the income when there weren’t contracts on the fae, and just sort of took off from there. Though it’s always been the family pledge that they would only go after the bad humans. Fae, it really didn’t matter, but for humans there had to be proof enough that the person deserved to have a contract on them.
So she was born into an assassin family. From birth, she and her sisters were trained in the art of everything from poison to weapons to blending in. She didn’t have any special abilities to help her out – those wouldn’t come until she hit puberty. But that didn’t mean she was helpless either. She had to learn how to move quietly, how to blend into a crowd, how to track a fae (and that lesson spanned a whole year – there’s so much to tracking their target!). Not to mention learning about how a fae worked… And well everything else that went with the job.
Aside from her lessons in everything assassin-related, she also got a more traditional schooling as well. Her family – everyone down from grandmothers to uncles to children – lived in the Wicklow mountains of Ireland, so there were no schools around. It took an hour and a half to get to the nearest school, and she and her sisters were always forbidden from mentioning their odd lifestyle. It was tough, to be honest. She didn’t have many friends at all throughout her grade school years, she just didn’t know how to keep someone close and yet not tell them about her life. Mostly instead she made a few friends who she kept at a distance… though she did find a couple good friends who were also fae-blooded.
And so her childhood years passed on in this manner. When Rissa was 12 puberty hit, and she started to show signs of her special ability. Water manipulation. Pretty useful if you asked her – water was everywhere, unless you were in the middle of a desert. By the time she was 16 she had gone on a couple runs with family – live demonstrations. And once she hit 18 she was a full-time “employee” if you called it. It was an exciting gig as far as jobs went… tracking down targets took her all over the world at times, and it paid enough that she was able to foot her penchant for designer clothes. During her downtime she enjoyed visiting Dublin… it was a fun city, great shopping malls, even nicer parks. You could usually find her hanging out around downtown Dublin or reading in one of the parks.
But then Rissa hit an identity crisis. She was 24 years old, and taking contracts was getting… well, for lack of a better word, boring. Same old same old, and then one contract that she and her sisters shared was the last straw. Whether her family liked it or not, Rissa was going to take a hiatus from the family business and go see what a normal life was like. She moved out to Dublin, got a nice little one-bedroom flat, and enrolled in Dublin College. Yeah, she was a bit old for an incoming freshman, but she was able to pass it off pretty easily.
That was the spring of 2012. Come summer, Rissa started to notice something odd. There were more fae than ever hanging around, fae who weren’t on any list that she knew of and who killed if you saw through their glamour. Checking in with the local chapter of the group that helped out the fae-blooded, she found out they’d also noticed the change. But no one could predict what happened on All Hallows Eve.
Rissa was just chilling in her flat when it happened. The air around her seemed to quiver, to shake and waver. And then chaos. The lights when out, there was yelling outside, and worst of all were the fae streaming through what looked like a piece of Faerie. Except that was supposed to be impossible. Cell phone towers were down as well, and her satellite phone that led to a line at her family’s home wasn’t working either. That night, Rissa is ashamed to admit, she hid inside her little flat and waited until morning to come. She watched the rioting, the mass killing, from safe inside, knowing that with so many fae she didn’t stand a chance.
Over the next few days, Rissa regrouped with her family. They saw death after death, and for all that they started to fight against the fae, it didn’t help. Only once the light fae started helping the humans did the tide turn, but the destruction of her world was horrific to contemplate. The death that she’d seen on such a scale was just as horrific…. sure, she’d killed for a living, but that was only killing the people that deserved it. Innocents, children, helpless wanderers who got caught by shades… so many dead.
As the months passed, Rissa continued to help fight against the dark fae army… and then later, against the faction of fae who thought Earth would be better under fae control. How Faerie could be dying when Earth was still thriving was something she didn’t get, but she did know that she would never let any fae take over their world. As for the fae who just wanted to live here in peace…. Or at least not kill the humans? She wasn’t sure about them.
Anything else? nope!
